BUILDING COMMUNITY

Kids . Teens . Adults . Seniors

Dance People aims to build stronger communities. When people come together through dance, they create connections that transcend age, background, and experience.

Your donation supports our mission to offer dance as a means of building a stronger, more inclusive community. Whether through youth programs, adult classes, or community events, dance creates spaces for people to unite, celebrate diversity, and collaborate toward shared goals.

Together, we can make our community a place where everyone moves together, physically and socially.

CULTURAL IMPACT

Empowering Public Quality of Life

Dance enriches lives by enhancing the cultural and social fabric of our communities. When we invest in dance education, cultural events and performance opportunities, we empower individuals to express themselves, develop confidence, and gain new skills.

This not only increases the public's access to high-quality cultural experiences but also strengthens local economies and improves community engagement.

At Dance People, everyone dances. Our group classes are pay-what-you-can—always. Can’t afford it? Join us anyway. Pay what you can, or nothing at all if needed. If you’re able, paying full price or more helps keep our programs free for those who need it—young and old.

Your donation helps us provide opportunities for everyone to experience the transformative power of dance.

WHAT THE PUNK FEST

DANCE & DRUM FOLKLORE

Dance and Drum Folklore Series is a free community workshop and touring seminar that brings master artists from countries like Mali, Senegal, Abidjan, Cuba, and Haiti to share traditional music, dance, and song.

Our guests are cultural leaders—native and pioneering voices in their traditions—offering authentic, hands-on experiences for families and communities. While they’re in town, these artists also visit local schools, where students engage in powerful lessons in rhythm, movement, and cultural storytelling.

Your donation helps keep these programs free and accessible, supporting international artist fees, school outreach, and cultural preservation. With your support, we continue to build pride, understanding, and connection—one drumbeat at a time.

Why Support the What The Punk LGBTQIA+ Safe Space Project?

What The Punk is more than a festival — it is a strategic initiative designed to address the critical need for safe, affirming, and culturally relevant spaces for LGBTQIA+ individuals, with a specific focus on queer and trans people of color. Powered by Ovations Global Network Inc. (501c3 nonprofit), this program leverages the universal power of dance, music, and education to foster community resilience, intergenerational mentorship, and social equity.

By supporting our work, your organization or foundation will be directly contributing to:

  • Youth Development & Safety: Our Safe Space Initiative provides vital access points for LGBTQIA+ youth — including community dance events, club dance nights, and youth-led ballroom gatherings — all designed to offer affirming, trauma-informed spaces for self-expression, leadership development, and peer connection.

  • Economic Inclusion & Access: We offer sliding-scale pricing, need-based scholarships, and discounted access to arts programming, ensuring that financial hardship is never a barrier to participation in the cultural arts.

  • Workforce Development for LGBTQIA+ Artists: Through strategic employment of LGBTQIA+ artists, educators, and performers — many of whom are internationally recognized — we provide paid opportunities for community leadership and cultural contribution in underserved arts sectors.

  • Cultural Preservation & Innovation: We center and preserve the legacies of drag, ballroom, and underground urban dance styles, while fostering innovation and intergenerational dialogue across diverse communities.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Support deeply rooted training programs like the Simonson Method of Teacher Training, alongside culturally-specific workshops, artist residencies, and performance labs that empower dance professionals with the tools to teach, lead, and live their art sustainably.

Why It Matters:

Professional development is how we pass the torch. It’s how we take dance from something beautiful to something lasting. When we equip teachers, performers, and choreographers with rigorous, inclusive training, they return to their communities as mentors, organizers, and healers. They open doors for others. They create safer spaces. They inspire young people to see themselves in the art form. They build economies around movement, especially for queer and BIPOC creatives too often pushed to the margins.

Your support helps us:

Fund scholarships and tuition-free access for emerging educators and underrepresented artists.

Bring in master teachers from around the world for workshops, festivals, and certification programs.

Develop new, original works that reflect the lived experiences of our communities.

Expand programs like What The Punk Fest, which provide critical platforms for LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC voices in the global dance scene.

Sustain a network of educators who teach with awareness, compassion, and cultural integrity.
